Magaly’s Tamales & Mexican Grill is a Mexican restaurant in San Fernando that wears its traditional roots on its sleeve, inviting visitors into a space where homemade tamales and classic Mexican breakfast dishes take center stage. Located on North Maclay Avenue, this spot serves as a casual neighborhood eatery perfect for those looking to enjoy hearty, straightforward Mexican comfort food without the fuss.

The atmosphere inside is welcoming and functional rather than flashy. You’ll find a mix of steady locals and families drawn by the familiar flavors and generous portions. The steady flow of tamale preparation happening in the open kitchen area adds a homey, authentic layer to the experience, showing that this is a place still connected to traditional cooking methods.

Breakfast seems to be a strong suit here, with items like Chilaquiles Rojos, Machaca, Chorizo and Eggs, and unique offerings such as Stuffed French Toast and Strawberries making it more than just a tamale stop. For lunch or casual dinner, burritos, taco salads, and a variety of tamale options—like the classic Red Sauce Tamales, Cheese Tamales, and vegan alternatives—draw diners seeking familiar Mexican flavors done well.

The place has been noted for its slightly old-fashioned, no-pressure vibe, making it a laid-back spot to gather for a meal rather than a destination for a quick bite. Timing your visit outside of peak hours will mean a smoother experience, as the kitchen can get busy, causing some wait during mealtimes. For those who enjoy watching food being made, dropping by during the tamale-making process adds an extra layer of interest.

Magaly’s includes a small adjacent fruit and vegetable stand, adding a touch of local practicality and community feel to the visit. The staff tends to be friendly and helpful, which complements the down-to-earth nature of the place.

This restaurant will appeal most to people who appreciate generous, traditional Mexican dishes in a comfortable, unpretentious setting. Whether you’re in the mood for a satisfying breakfast plate or a hearty tamale order to take home, Magaly’s serves as a solid neighborhood spot in the San Fernando and greater Pacoima area. Evening visits might be quieter and easygoing, while brunch tends to bring in those looking for a substantial, authentic start to the day.

If you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine, look no further than this hidden gem. The food is absolutely delicious, with generous portions and prices that won't break the bank. I highly recommend the sopes, tortas, and menudo. While the food is undoubtedly the star of the show, there are a couple of areas where the restaurant could improve. During peak hours, the wait for your food can be a bit long, so be sure to factor that in when planning your visit. Additionally, the music selection is limited to reggaeton and bachata, which doesn't quite capture the full breadth of Mexican music. Overall, the delectable food and reasonable prices make this restaurant a must-try for Mexican food lovers. Just be prepared for a potential wait and a soundtrack that might not be entirely in sync with the cuisine.

This restaurant located in the city of Pacoima is amazing, once I walked in I was surprised, nice Friday Kaloh painting on the main entrance, high ceiling, a nice bar, very friendly and helpful staff, I feel that the restaurant has a very old fashioned romantic ambience, just lovely, and what makes the place even better is the roof top, where anyone can enjoy a meal, specially if it's evening time, there are 3 tables where you could take a date or even yourself to enjoy the sunset but it'll be way better to have someone, the string lights makes it more romantic. There is also a kind of private room , where you could easily enjoy the street view while enjoying the food. The food is absolutely delicious, last week I saw this place and I have been going 4 times already, they even make the tamales, no frozen food. I had a house special I believe it is, comes with 2 eggsany style ,2 slices of bread and a tamale of your choice. Personally I loved their food and I highly recommend this place, don't get me wrong if someone doesn't like the taste but let's be fair, we all have a different taste, but for me the food is delicious, and very affordable price. If I'm ever around I'll definitely have to try a new dish

Wow, this place is everything!!! So fresh, we came at a great time to see them make the Tamales on the spot. Ordered the Ribeye Steak cooked to perfection. Tamales are so soft and fluffy, and they don't skip on the filling. Also, iced coffee was better than Starbucks.

It seems I may have had a bit of a mixed experience at this restaurant. As a huge fan of homemade tamales, I was really looking forward to trying the Tamale Bowl. However, it didn’t quite match my expectations. I had envisioned something similar to a Chipotle-style bowl, but instead received a dish that felt more like a fresh, health-inspired bowl filled with an abundance of veggies. On the positive side, my sisters Chili Relleno looked absolutely delicious and definitely caught my eye! In hindsight, I might have been better off choosing that or sticking with the classic tamales. Overall, while I didn't find what I was hoping for, I can appreciate the emphasis on fresh ingredients. I may give this place another shot to explore more of the menu!

Another little gem in the East valley. Very nice atmosphere Friendly staff. Little fruit & Vegetable stand inside as well witch is pretty convenient. Called in my order and it was ready when I arrived so that’s another plus. Got a dozen tamales mixed pork, Chili cheese, Mixed vegetable and Sweet corn & Pineapple. I have to say Not bad at all! The tamales are a good size and prices are fair. If your ever in Sanfernando Give this place a try.
